Location: This opportunity is available to those who live within a commutable distance of London. Due to working hours, we recommend a maximum of one hour from / to base which for this role is Townmead Road, SW6 2PY. Please note there will be no reimbursement of travel to and from work.

The BBC Flexi Job Apprentice Agency (FJAA) is offering an exciting opportunity to be a Level 3 Production Apprentice.

The production apprenticeship helps you gain experience in the exciting world of media production. You’ll learn on-the-job, developing your knowledge and skills while working towards your production apprenticeship qualification with our learning provider Bauer Academy.

Doc Hearts are an award-winning documentary, children’s and branded content production company. At Doc Hearts, you will play a key role in supporting the end-to-end production process across our diverse range of projects. This is a hands-on opportunity to develop your skills in a professional environment while contributing your creativity and technical know-how to our team.

This is an exciting first step into the editorial side of programme making, giving tools for future careers in fields such as Runner, Junior Researcher, Broadcast Assistant, Content and Edit Producer, Junior Production Coordinator, or Technical Operator.

Through the BBC’s Flexi-Job Apprenticeship Agency, you will be hired by the BBC and be placed with Doc Hearts for the duration of your apprenticeship. The BBC will work with Doc Hearts and Bauer Academy to oversee your successful progress on the apprenticeship.

An apprenticeship requires full commitment and discipline from the learner. Alongside experiences and training, there is an expectation of wider self-learning and the requirement to meet learning objectives and deadlines, as outlined by the apprentice standards. Apprentices must show the BBC that they are dedicated to accomplishing the knowledge, skills and behaviour requirements outlined in their apprenticeship learning plan.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

What will you be doing on the apprenticeship?

·   Assist in the research and development of production ideas
·   Researching trends and compiling reports on the content landscape
·   Support technical areas such as camera, lighting, and sound
·   Research and identify resources, logistics, and equipment in line with production requirements and constraints such as budgets
·   Work collaboratively with clients, cast, crew members, and suppliers
·   Support content creation, including audio, visual, and podcast production
·   Contribute to editing and post-production workflows
·   Assist with production planning, commissioning pitches, and research
·   Develop creative solutions and assist in pitching production ideas
·   Provide technical support, including the use of radio, TV, and podcasting.

What will you be studying?

You’ll be studying your industry recognised qualification, learning both on- and off-the-job in a programme delivered by Bauer Academy and based on the apprenticeship standard. We’ll also give you BBC Academy training, delivered by our experienced trainers.

Passionate about their own self-development, showing the discipline and commitment required to complete the apprenticeship.

To be eligible for an apprenticeship at the BBC, you must:

Be aged 18 or over when the apprenticeship starts in April 2025
Live within a commutable distance of London
By the start of the apprenticeship in April 2025, have lived in the UK or European Economic Area (EEA) for a minimum of 3 years
Be eligible to work in the UK full time for the duration of the apprenticeship contract
Not currently taking part in an apprenticeship scheme supported by the BBC or another organisation.

Not have completed or hold qualifications in the apprenticeship subject at the same or higher level
Be available for the in-person assessment which will take place at BBC Broadcasting House London on 7th March
Be able to start on Tuesday 22nd April 2025.

A Placement Manager from Doc Hearts, who will oversee your hands on learning and development
A dedicated BBC team including a Scheme Specialist and Scheme Advisor to guide you through your employment and the apprenticeship
A 35-hour working week and 20 days of annual leave
Access to the Nest Pension scheme, Life Assurance, Employee Assistance Programme, Remote GP; access to BBC Unmind and Occupational Health.

Towards the end of your apprenticeship:

An industry recognised production qualification
Lots of experience to help you seek out new challenges and work opportunities across the creative industries.
