Aldi to Create 5,500 New Jobs Across the UK in 2024

Aldi, the UK’s fourth-largest supermarket, has announced plans to create 5,500 new jobs across the country in 2024, continuing its rapid growth and expansion. The popular discount chain, which already operates over 1,000 stores and employs more than 45,000 colleagues nationwide, is set to open even more stores and expand its workforce throughout the year.

The new positions include a range of roles such as Store Assistants, Managers, and Cleaners in the new stores set to open in 2024. In addition to store-based roles, Aldi is also looking to recruit staff across its 11 Regional Distribution Centres, as well as roles within its Head Office.

For those starting as Store or Warehouse Assistants, Aldi offers competitive pay, with salaries starting at £12.00 per hour, rising to £12.95 nationally. Within the M25 region, the starting salary is £13.55, increasing to £13.85. Aldi also stands out in the supermarket sector as the only retailer to offer paid breaks, which adds up to more than £900 a year in additional earnings for the average store colleague.

Giles Hurley, CEO of Aldi UK, praised the dedication of the supermarket’s employees: "Our colleagues work incredibly hard and are without a doubt a huge part of our success at Aldi. We continue to welcome more and more customers to Aldi stores every week, not just because of our unbeatable prices and British sourcing, but also because of our amazing colleagues. We are looking forward to welcoming even more team members across the country as we work towards our goal of making affordable, quality food accessible to everyone."

Aldi’s expansion plans don’t stop there. The retailer recently committed to opening 500 more stores across Britain as part of a £1.4 billion investment over 2023 and 2024. This massive investment will help Aldi grow its distribution network, improve existing stores, and upgrade its technology infrastructure to support its rapid growth. The supermarket's ambitious goals reflect its determination to maintain its position as a leader in the competitive grocery market, offering value without compromising on quality.

As one of the UK’s fastest-growing retailers, Aldi has built a reputation for not only providing affordable, high-quality products but also being a top employer. Aldi regularly ranks highly in employee satisfaction surveys due to its focus on colleague well-being, development opportunities, and a strong work-life balance. Paid breaks, competitive wages, and a clear career progression structure make Aldi an attractive employer for those seeking roles in retail or distribution.

For anyone looking for a new opportunity in 2024, Aldi offers a range of roles suitable for individuals at various stages of their careers. Whether starting in an entry-level position or seeking managerial responsibilities, Aldi provides comprehensive training and support, ensuring all team members are equipped to thrive in their roles.
