Amazon to Hire Over 15,000 Seasonal Workers in the UK Ahead of Festive Rush
Amazon has announced plans to hire more than 15,000 seasonal workers across its UK network to meet the increased demand during the festive season. These roles come in addition to the company’s 75,000 permanent UK employees and will help ensure smooth and timely deliveries to customers during one of the busiest times of the year.
The seasonal positions are spread across Amazon’s receive centres, fulfilment centres, sortation centres, and delivery stations. The company is offering competitive pay for these roles, starting at £13.50 per hour and rising to £14.50 per hour depending on location.
Amazon’s investment in its workforce has been significant, with the company injecting £550 million into increasing pay for its operations staff since 2022. This marks a 35% rise in hourly wages over the last two years. In a September update, the company revealed it was increasing the minimum pay for frontline operations employees to between £13.50 and £14.50 per hour, depending on location. For those with 36 months of service, the rates rise to between £13.75 and £14.75 per hour.
This pay boost represents at least a 9.8% increase, effective from 29 September, benefiting tens of thousands of Amazon’s frontline workers. Full-time employees can now expect an annual starting salary of between £28,080 and £30,160, depending on their location.
In addition to competitive wages, Amazon provides all employees with a comprehensive benefits package from day one. This includes private medical insurance, life assurance, income protection, subsidized meals, and an employee discount. These benefits are valued at over £700 annually, and employees can also join Amazon’s company pension plan.
Anil Verma, UK Operations Director at Amazon, expressed excitement over the seasonal recruitment drive, stating: “We prepare year-round for the festive season, and we’re excited to have more than 15,000 positions available this year in the UK. Our seasonal colleagues play an integral role in helping us deliver an exceptional experience for our customers. We look forward to welcoming back seasonal workers who return year after year and to introducing new faces to the team.”
